What’s on in September?

If you need a refresher of what is happening this month, in the classic car world, we have the latest update as at 26 Aug. 2020.

The Great Mally Rally – NEW DATE:  August 30 – 6 September – For Bikers only, you might be a tad late to sign up to this, our adventure joining this last year was covered in the journal – Volume 4 – but you never know your luck. It is an awesome adventure brilliantly organised, we loved it in 2019, and hope to rejoin the crew next year.  Click here

Concours of Elegance – 4- 6 September. – Boasting a display the most iconic Ferraris ever built, due to knock your socks off apparently – to include a 250 GTO – alongside other jaw dropping rarities such as the 275 P2/ 365 P2  prototype, 250 LM, 250 GT Ellena and 275 Competizione Clienti. This event is based at Hampton Court Palace from 4-6 Sept 2020. Entry to the socially-distanced event will be strictly limited with tickets only available to purchase in advance. Click here

Historic Grand Prix, Zandvoort, Holland – 4 – 6 September, This event is still going ahead and competitors will get the first chance to see and drive the new improved Zandvoort circuit. However Spectator tickets are limited and must be purchased in advance. All five of the Masters Historic Grids will be racing at Zandvoort and a ‘right of passage passes’ are available to competitors and their teams to ensure no quarantine measures are required on return to the UK. These are strictly only available to competitors and teams and has to be submitted by the British race organiser. For tickets click here

Tour Auto Optic 2000 – new date: 31st August – 5 September – The first rendezvous takes place on Monday 31st August in the Grand Palais and gives the public the opportunity to see all the cars entered for the event. In the early morning of 1 September the crews leave the capital and set out to cover 2140 kilometres of French roads. Over five days competitors do battle on four circuits (Nevers Magny-Cours, Charade, Lédenon and Paul Ricard) and in 10 special stages. This schedule brings the Tour Auto Optic 2000 caravan to Clermont-Ferrand, Limoges, Toulouse and Pont du Gard before its journey comes to an end at the Circuit Paul Ricard. Only one Brit entry has been brave enough to cross the water and that is the Shelby Cobra 289 of Shaun Lynn co-driven by Nigel Medcalf. Good luck guys! For this year’s entry list click here

Lydden Historics on the Hill – NEW DATE:  13 September – This event ‘Historics on the Hill’, originally scheduled for the 4th July, has been re-scheduled to the 13th September 2020. We can confirm the Historic Racing Drivers Club (HRDC) are here in force, for an action packed day of Goodwood style racing from the HRDC Jack Sears Trophy, for touring cars 1958 – 1966, the HRDC ThermexAllstars – for pre ’66 GT & Touring cars, and the HRDC Classic Alfa Challenge – for 750 – 116 Alfa Romeos. So if you are missing your Revival fix, why not get dressed up and head to Lydden? Off track, there will be a large display of classics, customs, hot rods and historic cars. Come in your pre-1980 car and enter half price! Book Tickets

Monza Historic – 18 – 20 September – Seemingly this is all still happening, but I suspect the Peter Auto Crew are currently running around like crazy trying to reorganise the Tour Auto – so there are no updates on this event yet. Suffice to say thank goodness Italy seems to have controlled the virus. Hurray for small mercies!

Le Mans 24 hour  –  19 – 20 September – Another event postponed from June 13-14, we had the virtual Le Mans now we have the real deal but without the fans, as this event is being held behind closed doors.  A Le Mans with no fans?  Weird.

Classic Car Drive In Weekend – 18-20 September 2020 – A great excuse to get your classic car out of the garage and go for a drive and meet other enthusiasts. Do it, Do it, Do it…  click here for more

Bespoke Rallies – Highlands 1000 – 23 -27 September.  Scotland in the Autumn will be awesome. This event has also been confirmed to happen and still open for entries. click here for more details

*** UPDATE*** 4.9 NOW CANCELLED – Spa Six Hours – 25 – 27 September – The much anticipated highlight of many historic racers year is our annual pilgrimage to Spa Francorchamps. After much deliberation the event organisers have confirmed the Spa Six Hours is to go ahead, however WITHOUT spectators which is a huge shame, given how vast the circuit is. This amazing event is all about the atmosphere, why else would we choose to race for six hours in the dark and sometimes rain, with 50 yr old candles for headlights while GT40s are passing us on either side? – Needless to say, we’re in! Once again UK race organisers are being offered a  ‘Free right of passage’ to excuse competitors and working team members from Quarantine rules. Motor Racing Legends are also taking all their grids.

The Malle Beach Race – 26 September – Set to be the UK’s first Vintage Motorcycle Beach Sprint all set in Margate, expect customs, scramblers, flat racers and more bizarre dressing up. It will be awesome.  For tickets click here

Normandy Beach Race – 23-25 September –  Set to go ahead on Riva Beach from 23 -25 September. Click here for more

Salon Prive – New Dates: 23 – 26 September – (Full event preview to follow) tickets now being sold. Tickets available here

Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride – 27 September Sadly so many of these events clash, but if you just want an excuse to get out on your classic bike with other enthusiasts this is a good one! Sign up here
