Historic Touring Car Challenge and Tony Dron Trophy heads to Oulton Park Gold Cup

HTCC - DHF17 (3 of 1)

This weekend competitors for the Historic Touring Car Challenge and Tony Dron Trophy head to Cheshire for the Oulton Park Gold Cup meeting. Qualifying and race are all scheduled for the Bank Holiday Monday which has been themed as Touring Car Monday by the host organisers the HSCC.

This race follows on from the exciting battle at Snetterton in July where Chris Ward took the honours in the JD Classic’s Ford Broadspeed Capri closely followed by Steve Dance in his Ford RS2600.  And at the double header event at Brands Hatch in May it was Steve Dance and Mark Smith in his BMW M3 E30 who took a win a piece.

This weekend at Oulton Park Chris Ward is back piloting with ex-BTCC star Steve Soper in the JD Classics Bastos Rover SD1 Vitesse, Steve Dance is back in his rapid Ford RS2600 and Mark Smith’s BMW M3 E30 will be offering some stiff competition.

Other potential front runners include Ric Wood who brings a new Liquimoly liveried Ford Capri to his home circuit today.  Peter Hallford returns with his 5.8 litre Ford Boss Mustang and Ken Clarke is out with his original TWR Hepolite Rover.

New faces on the grid include a pair of BMW 635 E24s entered under the Geoff Steel Racing banner with Geoff Steel returning to the driving seat co-driving with Paul Beddow. The second BMW 635 is piloted by seasoned racers Andre D’Cruze and Shane Bland.

Incorporated in this race is the Tony Dron Trophy for Group 1 cars running to period specification where the Team Hermetite liveried Ford Capri of John Spiers/Neil Merry will be fending off Peter Mallett in his Rover SD1 3500S and Paul Pochciol in his Esso liveried 3.0 Capri.  Look out for a pair of black Golf GTis battling it out wheel to wheel – as Jim Morris and Mark Wilson go head to head.

Monday’s fifty minute race kicks off at 9.45 for qualifying with the race at 14.40pm. Timetables and full entry list can be found on our website.
