1950s Cooper Bobtail Type 39

Cooper Bobtail Type 39 Chassis no CS3/56

This beautifully prepared Cooper Bobtail was purchased by Australian Alan Mackay after a trip to Europe, and is believed to have been raced by him at the Imola Grand Prix in September 1956.

It was then taken back to New Zealand in 1956 and raced at Ardmore, Wigram and finally at Dunedin in February 1957.  It was sold shortly after and returned to Australia where it was raced with great success in the Tasmin Tourist Trophy and in the 1959 Australian Grand Prix.  During the early 60’s it was used sparingly and later fitted with a Porsche engine in 1962.

During the 80’s the car was completely restored with a 1500cc FWB and sold to a Californian collector Art Valdez who campaigned it for a short period in the US.

The car is being sold by Hawker Racing in immaculate condition and can only be described as new, on the button, ready to race.

It would be ideal for the Royal Automobile Club Woodcote Trophy races or Stirling Moss Trophy and other events such as the VSCC, HSCC and AMOC Racing 50s race series.

Cost £145,000.00  For more information call Tony Ditheridge on 01449 745 544 or 07894 859417
