Spa Six Hours – Countdown

Photos by Dave Brassington

As Goodwood closes for another year the build up to the Spa Six Hours event has begun, but the weather is looking rather like it could repeat last years wash out.

These shots from last year are from Dave Brassington who will be in residence at Spa this weekend, if you have any photographic requirements – please do not hesitate to contact me at: sarah@autoaddicts.co.uk

Among the well-filled and varied programme of the Spa Six Hours, the Historic Grand Prix Cars Association will present two races bringing together Grand Prix single-seaters from the ’20s through to the ’60s, whose owner-drivers need to meet two requirements: respect their car’s authenticity and retain the amateur sport spirit.

It will also be the opportunity for the Talbot 26SS to make a comeback after sixty eight years having competed bearing the number 32 in the Belgian Grand Prix Formula 1(in those days called formula A1) on the 29th June 1947 on the Spa-Francorchamps circuit.

Driven by the Frenchman Yves Giraud-Cabantous, it unfortunately was forced to retire from the race on the sixteenth out of the thirty-five laps.

History will recall that victory went to another Frenchman, Jean-Pierre Wimille, who at the wheel of an Alfa Romeo 158 covered the distance in 3 hours 18 minutes and 28 seconds after he had already set the fastest time in qualifying with a time of 5 minutes and 18 seconds.

However this year no comparison of times recorded in those days will be possible seeing the Ardennes circuit has undergone numerous modifications since that era!
