Some 109 teams will line up for the start of the annual Spa Six Hour event,  amongst them twelve Ford GT40’s – if you are serious about winning this event, this is the car to have, they hold the highest number of victories for this event since the first Six hour event in 1993. No surprise then the GT40 entries include some highly experienced hands such as Mike Jordan, Philip Walker, Martin Stretton, Shaun Lynn,  Gregor Fisken to name but a few. I wouldn’t like to predict a winner out of these front runners it could be any one of them.

For the front end of the grid this race is a 6 hour sprint, to win you need a well prepared car with no mechanicals issues, but you also need a decent fuel stop strategy. The majority of the 100 teams stop at 2hrs, and with the queue and go system operated in the Esso fuel station an unplanned delay here can cost you lots of places.

If you are not in GT40 territory, then included in this year’s line up, are at least 50 or 60 British made cars, featuring Jaguar, Lotus, TVR, MG, Aston Martin, Triumph, Ginetta, Morgan, Healey and even a Welsh built Gilbern GT1800.

Amongst the British entries are Bob Binfield entering an Austin Mini Cooper S, a very brave entry. Amongst the Jaguar E-Types look out for the Jon Minshaw/Phil Keen duo, also John Clark always has a well prepared car and the Chris Ward/Derek Hood & John Young trio.

There are the usual gang of Mustangs hauling their American tank slapping sides around, but my money is on something small, fast and reliable bringing up the rear of the American Muscle Boys and the Jags – such as the Morgan Plus4 of Keith Ahlers & James Bellinger, the Cottingham or Bianchi’s MGB or one of Lotus Elan 26R’s or the Triumph TR4’s, all of which have proven can be fast, and reliable in all weathers!

There are not many ladies on the grid, but its great to see the all lady entry of Katarina Kyvalona, Gillian Carr and Georgina Bradfield, – Good Luck Girls!  We’ll be out competing in the grey Healey 100  #79 – if you are competing or watching do come and say hello.
