Bicester, 13 April 2017 – Bicester Heritage is opening its gates to the public for the second time in 2017 on 23 April, as the hugely popular Sunday Scramble returns to the historic motoring community and celebrates Drive It Day.

Sunday will see the 13th instalment of the Sunday Scramble to take place, following on from the massive success of Scrambles past. Visitors can enjoy going behind the scenes at over 30 dedicated restoration, engineering and fabrication businesses and also take in the UK’s best-preserved WW2 RAF Bomber Station.

In addition, guests will be able to view the latest developments at Bicester Heritage, as the site enters its fourth phase of restoration works and the rejuvenation of this unique location continues. The 1920s airfield is set to benefit from a further 30,000 square feet of restored workshop, office and engineering space, to be completed this summer.

The likes of Classic Performance Engineering and storage experts Historit will be throwing open their doors on the day, giving enthusiasts an insight into the vast array of vehicles that they store, restore and maintain, making this a day for motoring enthusiasts to truly indulge in their passion.

Bicester Heritage was crowned the Industry Supporter of the Year at the 2016 International Historic Motoring Awards (IHMA), and the Sunday Scramble is the perfect way to see how the location has grown and changed since the site was purchased from the MOD four years ago.

The community is constructed as a supportive ecosystem of business, skills, events and provides a one-stop shop for motoring enthusiasts. From vehicle storage to specialist dealers, upholsterer, vintage car radiator manufacturer, fabricators, classic car service centre, grand-prix car preparation and more, it’s the true home of the classic car.

The 23rd April is ‘Drive It Day’ – the national scheme set up by the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs to celebrate the use and enjoyment of historic vehicles, inviting owners and enthusiast to get out and drive! The specialist businesses of Bicester Heritage will open their doors to more than 3,000 guests of all ages, while there’ll be in excess of 1,000 cars for them to enjoy – spanning a century of automotive history.

For the upcoming 13th edition, there is a fantastic array of car clubs signed up to attend, plus the usual wide array of companies, charities and stalls set up around the 348-acre site.

Hagerty International will host a live Valuation Arena at the event, allowing classic car owners to have their vehicle assessed by a team of experts who photograph the car and provide a valuation certificate. It costs just £15 and all proceeds going to charity.

As always, the Sunday Scramble will cater for lovers of both wings and wheels, and once again, the Tiger 9 team will also be putting on a static display on the airfield and Finest Hour Experiences will be offering the chance to head up to the skies in a stunning Tiger Moth aeroplane for a 20-minute trial flying lesson.

Bicester Heritage Marketing Manager Philip White said: “Drive It Day is a superb initiative, driven FBHVC it encourages historic vehicle owners to take their wheels for a spin. Why not make Bicester Heritage your destination for the day, and join us to soak up the atmosphere of our evocative and unique location?”
