A rare 1966 Lotus Elan S2 once owned by famous comedian, actor, photographer, singer and all round icon Peter Sellers, will be auctioned at the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show on Saturday 14th November by Silverstone Auctions, estimated at between £45,000 and £50,000.

The car was delivered to Peter Sellers’ Haymarket home on 22nd June 1966 and driven by him, with wife Britt Ekland in the passenger seat, until 29th February 1969. ‘SAR 57D’ then went through two other owners before being purchased by the current vendor.

The car is offered for sale having been part of an extensive private classic car collection for over a decade. It is in fantastically original condition and has been in dry storage off the road since August 2005. The Elan has covered 65,611 miles from new with the bodywork in good condition and ripe for a light restoration to return it to its former glory. Meanwhile the car is mechanically ‘on the button’, ready to go and be enjoyed by its next owner.

94 amazing classic cars spanning 83 years, as well as a host of automobilia and luxury lifestyle items, will also be offered this weekend at Silverstone Auctions’ sale at the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show.

Other highlights include a low mileage 1991 Jaguar XJ220, estimated at between £300,000 and £350,000. Chassis no. 220693 was hand built by TWR Jaguar in Oxford in 1991 before being exported to Brunei by special order of the Royal Family. The car remained as part of the world renowned, royal car collection until September 2002 when it returned to the UK.

The car has now covered just 5,782 miles and is supported by MoT certificates dating back to 2002. In August 2015 it had £20,000 worth of expert work completed by probably the UK’s leading authority on XJ220s, renowned specialists Don Law Racing of Staffordshire.

For boxing fans out there how about a 1973 Ferrari 365 GT4 2+2 once owned by boxing legend Henry Cooper, offered at no reserve.

A wealth of rare, low mileage and single ownership cars will also be going under the hammer. A left-hand drive 2009 Ferrari 430 Scuderia, estimated at between £180,000 and £220,000, has covered just over 400km from new and is presented in exemplary condition throughout. Supplied with its original handbooks, tool kit and car cover, it was first registered on 31st October 2009 in Switzerland. Finished in the highly desirable colour of Grigio Medio 791, the car is offered for public sale for the first time in its life.

For fast Ford fans there is a fantastic 1985 Ford Escort RS Turbo Series I, offered at no reserve. This incredible example of Ford UK history has covered only 5,568 miles from new in the hands of one registered keeper. It has never been restored or modified and is preserved in what can only be described as factory fresh condition. This Ford simply represents an unrepeatable opportunity for any Ford RS fan, collector or enthusiast.

For those not able to attend the sale in person it is possible to bid online, by phone or by leaving a commission bid with Silverstone Auctions before the sale begins. Viewing is available all day on Friday 13th November and on the morning of both sale days.
